Returning Resident expiry date

Post by jackkelleher » Tue Jul 04, 2017 6:51 am

Hello,

I have a question about my Returning Resident Visa.

I am on an American passport. I lived in the UK for over a decade with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), but did not become a citizen. I then left the UK for more than 2 years and my ILR lapsed. I applied for and was granted a Returning Resident Visa (RR).

My RR has a 'valid until' date listed in the upper right, and it apparently expires this year. I have spent hours and over £100 speaking with people from Nationality Enquiries (nationalityenquiries@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk), and they all claim that my RR will not expire. Similarly the gov.uk website states under the question "How long you can stay" that "you can return to live permanently in the UK."

What am I supposed to do? Who can I contact?

Thanks in advance

RR is same as ILR. The expiry date is of the card's expiry date. You can come and live in the UK for indefinate period of time. But you'll have to renew your card. Its same as driving license. Its forever but there is expiry date on the card by which you have to get new card.

Thank you for your reply. This is what I thought, but I can't find any information on how to renew my RR. Do you know how or where I can start that process?

Return before expiry of your Entry clearance.
Subsequently, apply for NTL, if you wish.
