How early Tier 2 extension application can be made

Hi,

My current Tier 2 visa is going to expire in March 2018, And I am becoming eligible for ILR in July 2018.
I want to get Tier 2 extension with the same employer as soon as possible so that I dont have to worry about two applications in very short time, like in March 2018 for Tier 2 extension and then for ILR in July 2018.
My question is,
Can I apply for Tier 2 extension 6 months before the visa expiry date?
I got first Tier 2 visa in July 2013, so I believe UKBA will give me Tier 2 extension until July 2019 (considering 6 years maximum time on Tier2 visa), doesn't matter I apply now or later.

Any help will be appreciate.

you can apply whenever u want. No time limit. all u need is a valid cos

Okay, it seems I cannot apply 7 months before the visa expiry then. But according to the first reply, I have the impression that I can apply at any time. This is confusing then
