MN1 Register a child

Post by MagsLove » Sat Jul 22, 2017 9:21 am

Hi,

I would like help to clarify an issue regarding registering a child. I have an ILR and currently employed by the Navy. I am applying for Naturalisation in August and am planinig to register my child as a BC who was born in a Commonwealth country and has lived in the UK for 4 years under a dependent visa. Is he eligible to register as a BC or does he need ILR first?

Children born abroad are expected to have ILR, along with one naturalised parent and the other parent holding ILR before the child is registered as a British citizen (9.17.9 & 9.17.15 of the Nationality Instructions). Their ILR (or other immigration status) status is in-line with that of the less-privileged parent. So, what is the immigration status of the other parent?

A child born abroad requires ILR before they can be registered as British.
