BC Application Lost Passport

Post by Minimalist » Sat Jul 22, 2017 11:39 pm

I am getting ready to send in my application forms and I read some posts where individuals were asked to send in the original passport.
I came to the UK 2005 when I was 11 years old and lost my passport after coming as I was travelling alone. I must have dropped it in the airport or on the train...I studied here from primary school through to university and never left the country even for a holiday.
Illegal: 2 years
Refugee: 1 year
LTR: 5 years and a couple of months
IDLR: 3 years
Would they still want to see my original passport ? Is there a chance my application won't be approved because of this? I want to know wether it's a good time to apply if I should wait a bit more.

Thank you

1. As a matter of operational policy, you do not need to submit a passport with your application, provided of course you can otherwise establish your identity and nationality. I assume you have been issued with a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)? If so, you will need to submit the BRP, accompanied by ONE of the following: national identity card, travel document, birth certificate, UK driving licence, bank statement. You should normally submit the document you used for the Life in the UK test, if it is available (see Guide AN p.13).

2. Just looking at your immigration history, it appears that you were resident in the UK without leave for the first year of the last 10 years. The HO will take your immigration history in the previous 10 years into account in determining whether you are of good character. See Nationality Guidance, "Good Character Requirement":

para.9.5. "9.5 Illegal Entry
In circumstances where an applicant entered the UK illegally, an application for citizenship should normally be refused for a period of 10 years from the date of entry, if it is known. If it is not known, the period of 10 years starts from the date on which the person first brought themselves to or came to the attention of the Home Office."

And para.9.7. "The decision maker will normally refuse an application if within the 10 years preceding the application the person has not been compliant with immigration requirements, including but not limited to having:
a. failed to report
b. failed to comply with any conditions imposed under the Immigration Acts
c. been detected working in the UK without permission
