Is the Father of an Irish citizen eligible for citizenship?

Post by wael887 » Mon Aug 21, 2017 11:42 am

I'm a non-EU citizen married to a British citizen living in Ireland and I hold the stamp 4 five years card based on being a spouse of an EU citizen.
My baby son was born in Ireland while I was processing my Stamp 4 card and we got him his Irish passport.
Is being a father of an Irish citizen considered an Irish association and a fulfilment of this following statement from citizens information website: (Meaning: Will it shorten the naturalisation period from five years to less than five years based on Irish associations).

The Minister for Justice and Equality has power to waive one or more of the conditions for naturalisation in the following circumstances:
If you are of Irish descent or of Irish associations.

Thanks in advance for you help

I received the five years stamp 4 EUFAM card in March this year. Before that, I was on the temporary one from July 2016 to March 2017. So, I don't know from which one I should start counting.

Hi
It's says : Anyone applying based on Irish Associations can apply after 3 years in the country. (Irish Associations is when you are related by blood, affinity or adoption to an Irish citize so that could be you  ) you will have to wait though.

As per INIS In the case of a refugee, stateless person or a person of Irish associations, the Minister will normally waive 2 of the 5 years' reckonable residence requirement.

Hi Broli,

Thanks a lot for your help.
I think this might work out and it's worth trying. Do you or anyone here on the forum know which form do I need to fill to try this?. Maybe by checking the required documents and instructions in the form, I'll be able to have a better idea.

Thanks
