Applied for visa extention without paying IHS charges

Hi,
I have applied for extention of visa by post(visa expires after few days). I forgot to pay IHS charges, what can i do now? Shall i pay it online and inform home office? Do i have to pay before my visa expires? Shall i wait until they send me letter to pay for IHS? Will there be any problem with my application?
