Registering wedding in India

Hi, I am a British citizen, marrying a resident of India. For applying visa for my fiancé after the marriage, I need to show registration of the wedding in india. Does anybody know what documents are required to apply for the registration of wedding in India? And also if I have no residence proof of India, can I show residence proof of UK?

I have never lived in India and have no residence proof.

Where is the wedding taking place?
If in India, should be fairly straight-forward to register.

HO requires both partner to be physically present at the time of ceremony even at abroad. Usually a legally performed marriage gets registered instantly and yield marriage certificate.
