Hello all
I am hoping to get advice from you on a very peculiar situation .
In October, I will be eligible to apply for naturalisation (after completing 12 months post ILR). I intend to make use of a NCS close to me.
Recently, I was offered an opportunity at my office to go on a 2 years expatriate assignment outside the UK (western Europe) with my family, to begin 8 November. A dream come true for me.
For my expatriation to be lawful however, I have to declare tax residency in this European country. I understand that this takes effect on the day my assignment begins (8 November).
This is an opportunity I do not want to hesitate on or delay.
However, my concern is if I will complicate or affect my naturalisation/BC application by doing this.
Can you help with the following?
1. Will my tax status in another country be an issue, AFTER lawfully completing 5 years + 12 months ILR?
2. How does the Home Office determine ones intention to remain in the UK after an application. For example, I intend to leave my house unoccupied during the period of the naturalisation/BC application, is this enough to demonstrate that I have commitments in the UK?
3. In order to keep abreast with updates on my application, I will be constantly roaming my phone, checking the status on the website, and will make frequent trips to the UK to check my letters. Is this sustainable?
4. I need a work visa for the expatriation, and so my intention is to only do this AFTER I have applied for naturalisation/BC as I think it will be a problem if a work permit for another country appears in my application! Is this okay?
I appreciate any advice / help you can offer.
Thanks!
