Could someone help me please? I am a British Citizen and got married recently to a non-British Citizen. We are applying for a UK settlement visa. His engineering company sent him to the UK on a work visa (which is how we met) but have now made him redundant. This means therefore that from next month he has no guaranteed income. I work full-time and earn more than the minimum needed, so from that side of things we're covered.
However..my husband still has to pay his ex-wife in his old country alimony on a monthly basis, which is a massive amount of money. The split was acrimonious and she is in no rush to renegotiate, so he will have to use his savings until the situation gets resolved which doesn't look like any time soon.
My concern is this: because he has no income but still has financial responsibilities related to his previous marriage, would this be seen in a bad light by the people deciding whether to issue us the visa, or would it not matter? Would they expect me to be able to cover these monthly payments? The marriage was childless therefore there are no legal dependents in that sense.
Thank you in advance - all advice gratefully received!
