EEA(QP) Application - Comprehensive Sickness Cover Question

Post by PuffPastry » Mon Oct 02, 2017 12:48 pm

I'm applying for a PR card and I've been looking for this info but just cant find it. Do I need to have insurance within the UK or can I have it in the country I have citizenship in?

Thank you

PuffPastry, you are expected to exercise your Treaty Rights in the EU Member state where you have been a qualified person during five years; and provide evidence of a CSI during times you were a student or a self-sufficient person. You don't need a CSI during periods you worked or been a self-employed person. Hope it helps,

Thank you, tmonaghan.

The problem with my application is that I have both been working and studying in my past 5 years, overlapping.

I've been mostly working for agencies in the beginning, only recently managed to get a stable longer term job with better pay. There was no time I was only studying, I have been always employed, even if it was on a zero hour contract for a while (agency work).

SInce I've ticked both studying and working on my application, it is now asking me to provide comprehensive sickness cover evidence and I dont know if an insurance in my home country would suffice or not (my mother is an insurance agent, I'd rather get insured with her than a stranger).

If I did not have insurance until now, would my previous 5 years be invalid because I have not been insured during that time?

Thank you

EEA(QP) Application - does Comprehensive Sickness Cover need to be from the UK?

Post by PuffPastry » Thu Oct 05, 2017 10:17 am

I have a problem with my application - I have both been working and studying in my past 5 years, overlapping, so the system is asking me to prove that I have Comprehensive Sickness Cover insurance.

My intention is to apply for citizenship once I'm eligible so using an EHIC card is not an option as I'd like to stay permanently.

I've been mostly working for agencies in the beginning, only recently managed to get a stable longer term job with better pay. There was no time I was only studying, I have been always employed, even if it was on a zero hour contract for a while (agency work).

I dont know if an insurance in my home country would suffice or not (my mother is an insurance agent, I'd rather get insured with her than a stranger).

If I did not have insurance until now, would my previous 5 years be invalid because I have not been insured during that time?

Will having worked on zero hour contracts not count?

Thank you

The question should just be whether they will pay the cost of treatment in the UK for a UK resident.

I believe it is the average hours worked that will matter - 'genuine and effective', as opposed to 'marginal' or 'ancillary', so long as there are not long periods with very little work. Working more than 10 hours a week should be good enough. If you depend on having been a student, you will not qualify.

We await the rules for post-Brexit status with interest.

Many thanks for the reply. Most of the time I managed to get over 10 hours even with my 0 hour contract, but those times were very troublesome, never enough work. Hopefully once i sort out the insurance part I'll be able to send off the application. Thank you again!

Residency Card - EEA QP application as both student and worker

Post by PuffPastry » Tue Oct 10, 2017 3:22 pm

I am applying for my permanent residency status as a citizen of an EEA country (https://www.gov.uk/eea-registration-cer ... -residence)

I've been in the UK for 5.5 years now and I'd like to apply for a dual citizenship as soon as possible. Because I am a full time worker and a part time student at the same time, the online application form is asking me to provide proof of comprehensive sickness cover, however if I understand it correctly, you dont need to provide this if you are a worker, so why would I need to provide it if I am both?

I've tried talking to immigration lawyers but they refuse to answer this unless I give them £200. I was hoping someone can give me some advice on this. Should I just get insured and go with it, show proof of insurance? Or should I just print the application form out, skip this part and write a letter along with it, explaining the situation? What should I do?
