British passport for New Born child of ILR holder

Post by Soul 7 » Fri Nov 03, 2017 2:29 pm

Dear All,

My child is born in October 2017 and I now have the full birth certificate.

Questions:

Is my Child eligible for British passport
What is the process to apply passport
What documents I need to send or can I use post office service if I don't want to send original documents?

I appreciate your advise, I just want to be right first time.

Thanks

If the child was born in the UK and have ILR at time of birth, the child is automatically British and you can apply for a passport directly.

Pick up a form from the Post Office. It will have a booklet with the form that will tell you what to send.

Thanks for your reply, it is very useful. I checked the guidance online on the link below it does not mention the doc required for a new born if the parents have ILR. I just want to avoid wasting time.

if you can point what documents I need and do I need to send originals? is there an alternate?

Hi CROO1,

Birth certificate should be original as i have read it somewhere, can you tell me if ILR card and Father passport need to be send as well (original or photocopy)?

on application form - they ask for parent details - I have ILR and my child born in UK.

Father nationality at the time of your birth - i put india as i am still on ILR (don't have british passport) is it ok?
Father British passport (if known/applicable) - not supplied/applicable as i don't have it

British passport date of issue (if known/applicable) - i put not supplied/applicable

Can you please guide if these are correct answer, do i have to send original passport and ILR card?

Regards,
Sobi

Unfortunately, HMPO and UKVI don’t seem to share information for the benefit of applicants. HMPO wants originals. Therefore, parents should also try to keep their ILR cards even after their naturalisation.

Thanks Vinny

Just to reconfirm you are saying i should send my original passport and ILR card for my child british passport application.

Should i provide them prepaid envelop as well for the original documents return service.?

I am just afraid if they will misplace my original passport or ILR card, it would have ideal to send photocopy but doesn't look like

Sobi
