Historic debts

Post by vlabathomas » Tue Nov 14, 2017 7:46 pm

Hi,

I had received a notice from National Compliance and enforcement historic debt team in October 2017 for travelling on a train without a valid ticket in 2009. I wasn't aware of this fine at all until i got this notice few weeks back. This has been paid off in full at gov.uk/pay-court-fine online. When i spoke to them last week they said they had send a letter to the address i stayed in 2009 but i had actually moved out of that property by then so i wasn't aware.

I'm trying to extend my current tier 2 visa and found a statement on the form which says .
Have you had any judgement against you for non payment of debt or received civil penalty under the UK immigration acts?

Do i need to answer Yes or No to the above question ?

You have to answer yes and then explain what happened. I guess the question now will be that you have not declared it in your previous applications.
I am not a lawyer and do not claim to be one. All my comments here are based on my opinions, experience and interpretation of the appropriate UKVI guidance documents and immigration rules.

Answer is i came to know about it only last month.. As soon as i knew i paid off in full.
Neither am i aware of this incident and its over 8 years now cant even appeal as I've no evidence or record with me. All i had last month was a piece of paper that asked me for payment with nothing in it and said 10 days to pay. I had to call them and ask what the letter was about and they narrated an incident.
So i guess the answer to the question i need to put is Yes i suppose.
thanks,
