Police registration for a renewed Tier 2 Visa

Hi all,

I have recently renewed my Tier 2 Visa for an additional 3 years. I am required to register with the Police once again, which is where the confusion lies! I have received along with my BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) a letter stating that I need to register with the police and it says that I should register within 7 days at my local police.
Along with the letter addressed to me, there was an additional information letter that states I need to register with OVNO (Overseas Visitors Records Office) if I live within the London Metropolitan Police District (yes, I do).

I have tried to call OVNO, but their landline is utter useless, since it is just a recorded message saying that one needs to check the website for information. There is no information on the website with regards to that.

I wonder if anyone has recently renewed the Tier 2 Visa and had to register, where did you go? Local or OVNO?

I went to The Overseas Visitors Records Office and got informed that by living within the London Metropolitan Area I need to register with them, even though this is a renewal of the Tier 2 Visa. It could be done in your local police only if I live outside the London Metropolitan Area or if I'm just informing a change of address.

Due to high demand I've got an appointment to the 10th of Jan 2018 and they are aware that it won't be withing the 7 days limit.
