MN1 Query for Visa expiry

Post by jdsenuk » Tue Jan 02, 2018 2:02 pm

Hi, I'm hoping some of you might be able to help me.

I am an Indian passport holder and got my ILR on 3-Nov-2017. I have a daughter who was born on March 2015 and am in the process of registering her as a British Citizen.

Currently my family (wife, son born in India, and daughter born in UK) is on dependent Tier-2 visa which is expiring on 15-Jan-2018. As the date of entry to UK for wife and son is 3-May-2013 they become eligible for ILR in May-2018, so until then I will be extending their current PBS Tier-2 dependent (A different issue here with IHS).

Here's where I am stuck, and need advise.

I need to send my passport for wife and son's PBS Tier-2 dependent extension.
And I also need to send my passport for my Daughter's MN1.

Here are the options that are racing through my mind right now

Option 1 : Apply for visa extension for all 3 dependents and later sort out the MN1
Option 2 : Do a NCS for my daughter and then send my passport and BRP for wife and son's PBS Tier-2 dependent extension (before 15-Jan-2018)
Issue: I am unable to get through to NCS services, and have no idea of wait times.
Option 3 : Apply now only for wife and son's PBS Tier-2 dependent extension, and when I get back my passport and BRP, apply for daughter's MN1 (about 45 days down the line)
Issue: My daughter's BRP is expirig on 15-Jan-2018, and do not know if a 45 day wait is acceptable post visa expiry for submission of MN1 and British Passport

You can apply at ANY of the NCS offices. It does NOT have to be your local one.

Won't be an issue if the visa expires. She has an entitlement to register as British if born in the UK.

I tried contacting a few councils that offer NCS here's my experience. Fortunately I live in Birmingham and work in Leeds so had a few options.

1. Birmingham (probably the worst managed. Applicants are asked to request for an appointment using snail mail)
2. Bristol : Website states 8 Week waiting period.
3. Walsall
- Called-up on 2-Jan, and the line was disconnected after I was kept on hold for 50 minutes
- Called-up again on 3-Jan, and someone answered in 2 minutes. I explained that I needed an appointment for NCS, and if there were slots in the week commencing 8th Jan. Was told, there are available slots and that someone would call me back on 4-Jan to confirm my appointment (which hasn't happened until the time of this post)
4. Leeds
- Called-up on 2-Jan, and was directed to a voicemail box asking me to leave my details. So I left a voice message with the reason for my call and my mobile number.
- Called-up on 3-Jan, and was directed to the same messaging service, so hung-up without leaving any message.
- Jan-4 : Got a call from Leeds council, booked a Registration and passport appointment for 8th Jan at 1:15pm.

Here's a link for all the councils in England: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... g-services

Here another link that I used to see nearby councils http://cpag.org.uk/sites/all/modules/co ... f&nid=2084 . Note: Clicking on this will download a 8MB PDF.
