Expiring passport EEA

Post by Beabea » Sun Jan 14, 2018 10:49 am

Morning all

I’m new here and I’m looking for some advice :D
Short story: I’m a EEA national and when I took the language test I have used my passport as form of ID. Now, I will have to submit it with my application. (I still need to take my life in the uk test tho, which will be done by the end of the month).

What worries me is that my passport expires at the end of March 2018 (and we all know that the application might take up to 6 months).

I think I’ve got 2 options here and wondering if anyone has had the same situation as mine:
Option 1: I will submit the application and I will send the original passport and whenever it will be returned I will contact my embassy to get renewed.

Option 2 (this is what I would like to do however not sure if it will be ok): I would renew my passport now and I would use the NCS so they can copy both my passports. The question is: the Home Office will probably see that the ID used for the IELTS test has now been renewed (in this case the passport) - will they accept the old passport and the new passport as a valid form of ID?

Anyone has experienced this?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Use current passport and apply through NCS.

Do you hold a document certifying PR?

Hi there

Yes I do hold PR.

Would I be able to renew my expiring passport after having submitted my naturalisation app through the NCS? Or the Home Office will notice that meanwhile the submitted passport has been renewed?

Notify them once you have renewed your passport.

I’ve been thinking about using the NCS and due to the high fee I was thinking to try and avoid it if possible!

Just wondering if I will submit my application in February along with my current passport (which expires at the end of March 2018), as long as it is valid at the time of the application receipt, is it ok for the application?
Or it would be better if it has more time before expiry date?
