Lost BRP before starting work - how to prove RTW?

Post by Bird93 » Sat Jan 06, 2018 6:07 pm

Hi there,

I have unfortunately managed to lost my brand new BRP that granted me permission to work for my new employer a month before starting work. I have a premium service centre appointment for my BRP (RC) application on 30th January 2018 which should get me a replacement card decision that day but I can not afford to wait the 7-10 working days for the card to arrive as I start work on 5th February 2018 and I need to prove my Right To Work. How can I do this?

I have the original Home Office letters stating that my leave to remain had been granted for this job and the original reference number for the BRP but no copies of the BRP. Will the letters be enough for my employer until I can get the physical card? Can I start work on time? How likely is it that I could receive the card before the 5th of Feb? Any helppersonal experience would be appreciated!

That should not be issue. You can ask your employer to use Employere check service.

https://www.gov.uk/employee-immigration ... ent-status

This will confirm that you are eligible to work.

Thanks for your reply! But doesn't the Employer Checking Service only check if you have outstanding applications? I do not have an outstanding application, I have an approved one and am about to make a new application for a replacement on the 30th. Can the ECS check that I generally have the right to work anyway? It's not very clear

Thanks but I have visited the link, it says it can only be used if I have already made an application for a replacement BRP but I have not yet done so as my application will happen in person at the Premium Service Centre. Should I cancel this appointment and make a normal postal application so that I can show that I have an application?

If you apply via post it will take long time. Are you alreadg working for the employer or you have not yet joined the employer?

I have not yet joined, my first day is supposed to be 5th Feb. I know it will take longer but then it means that the ECS will show a Positive Verification showing that I have an ongoing application. If I I wait for the premium service centre application, the ECS will come back negative because I have not got an ongoing application, correct? Or can the ECS check my right to work generally?

Talk to new company HR and explain them the situation. They are Tier 2 sponsor so they have access to the system or at least confim with Home office about your work eligiblity. It should NOT be issue.

BRP (RC) Lost Card Replacement - Premium Service Experience

Post by Bird93 » Wed Jan 31, 2018 2:50 pm

Hi all,

This forum was really helpful to me when trying to get an urgent replacement for my brand new BRP (that got stolen the day after it arrived, just before I was due to start work for the first time!) so I want to give back by providing my experience of the whole application using the premium service centre.

1. Getting a premium service centre appointment

I lost the BRP on NYE 2017 and the earliest appointment I could get was on 30th January 2018 in Glasgow. I start work on the 5th of Feb 2018 so this was way too late for me to get the card delivered in time as it takes 7-10 working days to arrive after the appointment (Note: when I called the Home Office, they said it was 7-10 calendar days but when I received the approval letter it stated working days so don't be misled!).

I had read somewhere that new, unfilled appointments go live at midnight every night and sure enough, it did. I got an appointment on 22nd January 2018 at the Solihull Premium Service Centre. So I suggest check at midnight every night to see if any earlier slots have suddenly opened up if you can't get the date you want.

2. The appointment

The appointment itself was very quick and smooth. Mine was very early in the morning so there were very few people around. Everything was over in an hour and a half because mine was a like-for-like replacement. There's a vending machine inside but they encourage you to go outside while you wait for the approval. There's many shops, restaurants and a whole shopping centre right next to the office so it's very convenient. Got a phone call to come back and collect my documents and was handed the letter saying I was successful and would receive the card in 7-10 w. days.

3. Receiving the card via DX Courier

This is the stage at which everything started falling apart. We are not given tracking numbers to follow delivery of the package so we have no idea when it will arrive. I was not working at the time so I was able to sit home all day and wait for this delivery but obviously most people can not do this.

I had read someone's post saying that they had emailed BRPDelivery@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk and told them that they needed the tracking number due to an issue with their door so I followed suit and emailed them requesting it. I got an automated response saying that unless I was replying to an email from them, this email would be deleted without being actioned. Ridiculous!

So I called the DX Courier people to ask if they could look up my details. I had head such terrible things about them so I did not have high hopes when I emailed them but they replied within a few hours saying they had looked up my postcode and had nothing. I waited another 2 days and then phoned them asking them to check - got through very quickly and they told me they had nothing and maybe the package was still in transit to one of their centres. I was very impressed with how quick they were.

But suddenly on the 6th working day, I received a reply from the BRP Delivery email (that they said they would delete!) and they got in touch with the couriers for me and told me I would be receiving the packaging the following day. And lo and behold, I got an email at the same time from DX Couriers saying my delivery had been rescheduled for the next day. Now this is something I have to do myself and I had not done so, which means that DX Couriers pretended to have received a request from me to reschedule a failed delivery for the following day. I guess they were going to forget about my package until the HO contacted them and chased it up! And they had the audacity to pretend that the delivery had failed when I had been at home all day for more than a week waiting for this package! Furthermore, it means that the reps on the phone and via email had lied about not having received my letter because how can they have attempted to deliver a letter they never had? Absolutely shocking. To top it off, I received a letter in the post the same morning as my delivery was 'rescheduled' from DX Courier dated 5 days earlier saying that they had been unable to deliver my letter. A letter they claimed never to have in their possession! And definitely never tried to deliver.

But anyway, I finally received my BRP on 31st January 2018, exactly 7 working days since my appointment. It should have arrived by the 26th according to the DX Courier letter but whatever, it could have been worse, clearly!

My suggestions
  • Look for PSC appointments at midnight if you are unable to get a time slot you want
  • Do not believe anything DX Courier tells you, they lie in every way possible to cover their backs and improve their performance figures.
Timeline

[22.01.18] - Solihull Premium Service Centre appointment
[25.01.18] - Emailed BRP/Home Office address
[30.01.18] - Got tracking number and confirmation of 'redelivery'
[31.01.18] - Received BRP

I hope this is helpful in some way and I'll try and help with any questions from my experience!

Thanks - this is very helpful. My partner lost his BRP yesterday and went to the police station but they refused to issue a case number as they don't track lost items - how did you get around this with your application? We're desperately trying to find an appointment in the next few days as we have a trip on the 10th of March. Really worried we're not going to make it! :(

Sorry for the late reply! I would say register it as as stolen - most cities do this with an online form and it automatically generates a reference number from you which is all you need. No need to wait for a report or anything. Just need a description /story for how it happened. Mine happened without my knowledge so my description is just that I found out it was stolen after returning home and seeing an empty bag. Hope that helps!

Have you already reported it to the police as lost? If not, go to them and they will either give you a report or direct you to a website that they use. The site can be different for each local area so check with a police station near where you lost it. If you you have already been and they gave you that website then yes, report it on that site and save a screenshot of the reference number.

Hi,

I lost both my passport and BRP. While applying for BRP online, I did not come across a field where I have to mention old and new passport numbers. Can someone please guide me how to apply for a new BRP where the passport is also new?

Also. 3 of us in the family lost our passports and BRP. Can we get appointments for biometric information together?

Thank you.
