Uk spouse visa

Post by Komdip » Fri Feb 02, 2018 1:29 pm

Hi,

My husband is a British citizen and planning to apply for my spouse visa through savings route. We have a part of funds in fixed deposits where we have got letters from banks that they can be liquidated any time without penalty. But the agent we are using is insisting that we liquidate the funds which is a big financial loss. Any one else has used FD's as savings and been accepted for UK visa?

Appendix FM-SE: family members specified evidence wrote:11A. In respect of cash savings:

(a) The savings may be held in any form of bank/savings account (whether a current, deposit or investment account, provided by a financial institution regulated by the appropriate regulatory body for the country in which that institution is operating), provided that the account allows the savings to be accessed immediately (with or without a penalty for withdrawing funds without notice). This can include savings held in a pension savings account which can be immediately withdrawn.

The consequence of early repayment is that interest is forfeited. Thus the funds were correctly accepted as available in the reasons for refusal letter.

One more clarification. If we have investments in a bank which is not on the accepted list of institutions but the funds are transferred to a bank which is on the accepted list just before the application is processed will that be accepted?

If you mean that it works like savings then the funds to be held in account for at least 6 months prior to the date of application.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.
