Marriage abroad

Post by Christinem » Sun Mar 04, 2018 9:51 pm

Hi,
Sorry if this topic has been posted before. I’m located in the UK and my partner is in USA. He plans to live here with me in the UK and we meet the requirements for a UK spousal visa. What I’m wondering is what the implications are if we decide to have our ceremony in the USA (or elsewhere in the world). Would we have to be “legally” married in the UK before the actual ceremony?
Thanks!

UK acknowledges the foreign marriages with same value as they have been conducted inside the UK as long as the marriage has been legally performed in that particular country. Yes you can celebrate the ceremony anywhere.
