Staying with family for 2 years

We are Australians retiring, and want to stay in the UK for 2-3 years. Our children are Indefinite Leave to Remain Australians working in the UK. We can visit for 6 months without a visa. How do we extend to 2 or 3 years? We have no intention to stay longer than that. There seems no category for that. We are self funded.

There is no visitor extension which permits you a stay of 2-3 years. An adult dependant relative visa won't be applicable in your circumstances and unless you qualify for a PBS study or work category, there doesn't appear to be an opportunity for you both to remain in the UK in excess of the period allowed as a visitor.

Also bear in mind that as visitors, you are not allowed to spend more time in the UK within a 12 month rolling period than you are spending in your home country. If you exceed this, you could be refused entry.

I'm assuming you don't have British ancestry ?
