Proof of living together for spouse visa?!

Post by Cmoraschi » Tue Jan 30, 2018 10:57 pm

Hi All

My husband is currently in the UK on the Tier 5 Youth Mobility scheme visa, hes been here since May 2016, and we were married November 2017. I believe we now need to switch to FLR(M).

We started doing the online application online, and its asking us to confirm we can provide documents to prove we have lived together for the last two years - I am a little stumped here, I didnt think this was necessary for spouse, only partner? For one, he hasnt been in the country for two years, when he arrived it took him a few months to be able to open a bank account (round and round in circles with them not accepting ID!) and hes only just been added onto the tenancy agreement from November when it renewed and we could update it to add his name. All the bills are mainly in our flatmates name. We have a joint bank account, but thats it.

I am mega panicky, I haven't seen this requirement that we needed to prove we had lived together, just that we were/could live together.

Any ideas?

The form can be confusing. The 2 year co-habitation proof is only relevant for the first FLR(M) extension following the initial 2.5 year period. Submit evidence of a genuine relationship and that you are living together.

Thank you for putting my mind at ease; I knew deep down it wasnt right as it even conflicts their own advice online, but it wont let me continue the online application without clicking that I can provide it, which is what causes me some bother.

*******UPDATE************

After having it confirmed above that I was right in thinking we did not have to prove we lived together two years prior, I called the helpline to query why the website would not let me continue the application without clicking we could provide documents that did not apply to our situation.

The chap said that the website was new, and relatively glitchy, and suggested we use the paper form for the avoidance of doubt.

FLR M Document check please!

Post by Cmoraschi » Thu Mar 15, 2018 1:46 pm

Hi All!

We have our appointment at the Croydon Premium Service Centre on Saturday. I am a UK Citizen, Husband is Australian currently on Tier 5 YMS.

1:
Confirmation of appointment
Sponsor introduction letter
Application form
Proof of payment of fee
Proof of NHS Surcharge fee
Passports, plus his current bio residence card
2 x passport photos him, 1 me

2: Financial

Six months bank statements on Bank headed paper (not downloaded from online banking)
6 Payslips on headed paper
Letter from finance manager confirming payslips are authentic and also confirming amounts on letter
Copy of last years P60

3: Accomodation

Copy of tenancy renewal in November 2017 adding husband as a permitted occupier.
Copy of signature page and email from Landlady confirming as such
Copy of the property inspection report from May 2016 when we first moved in confirming number of rooms (we have a flatmate)

4: Proof of relationship
Original marriage certificate
Some wedding photos

4: Supporting documents
Copies of boarding passes/flight confirmations for holidays we have taken together, some screenshots from fb showing various check ins with friends and family, a few photos with friends and family. Havent done too much as understand this is 'extra' and dont want to bombard them.

I HAD done everything very nicely in a ringbinder and tabs and a contents page but I just found out it just needs to be two piles (originals and photocopies) bound together with string! Have used bullclips to hold each section together.

This is by far the most stressful experience I have ever had, I cannot wait for this to be over for the next 33 months!

Your property inspection report seems very old which need to be not older than 28 days from application date.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

FLR M - success! premium centre croydon plus document list

Post by Cmoraschi » Sat Mar 17, 2018 4:42 pm

Hi everyone

Firstly, thank you to all those who contribute on this board, its been an absolute life saver in helping navigate the incredibly vague route of getting the visa!

Background: I am British born UK citizen, husband is Australian on Tier 5 YMS visa, and we applied under category A.

We decided early on to pony up the cash to get the (hopefully) same day decision at a premium centre. I really didn't anticipate how stressful I would find the application, not necessarily because it was *difficult* more because I found the whole process very frustrating and clear as mud and the possibility of doing something wrong and the consequences of that meant we were carrying round alot of anxiety. Could not bear the thought of waiting for months for a decision!

We arrived at the Croydon premium centre around 9.30am for the 9.50am appointment. Had a little joke about the ridiculous snow with the security guard while he checked the appointment confirmation. A quick whizz through an airport-style security scanner and then a walk to the third floor. (lifts were not working which seems to be most peoples report, be mindful and maybe call ahead if you have any disability/access concerns).

A very friendly receptionist told us we were very early' for our appointment (15 mins is very early apparently!) and to take a seat while they checked in people who had 9.40 appointments. At 9.50 she checked through our paperwork quickly before giving us a number and a sheet of instruction on how the day would run. By 10am we had been called back from the waiting room to have our details put on the system and our paperwork collected.

IMPORTANT! I did and redid my paperwork several times, at first in a ring-bound folder with separators and contents pages until I read on here how they really don't need you do to that. We had stuck a few sticky tabs on bank statements to show payments and used clips to separate the relevant sections eg finance, accommodation etc. she absolutely did not give a hoot. she made us take it all off and just have one whole pile of papers and then another pile for photocopies we had done. That was it. The whole thing took 10, 15 minutes tops while she just input details into the system.Save yourself the time. Have it all in order, but thats it!

We then waited a few minutes for the biometrics, which was all over and done with that by 10.20 we were back in the main waiting room.

You watch your number move on the screen - we were in biometric checks for around 20 minutes and then 30 minutes 'waiting for consideration."

The chairs are ok, but its obviously v.boring. no tv screens, the 'cafe' was closed so we made do with the vending machine crisps and a bottle of water. There were plug sockets by the window.

At 11.10 we could see a caseworker had finally picked up our pack and we were under consideration. I was filled with dread and fear that somehow, we had managed to do something wrong. It got pretty noisy around this time too, lots of small children making noise as they often do. Would not advise wearing headphones as in addition to the auto message calling different numbers to desks, every now and then a member of staff would call a run of numbers to a desk which we assumed were those who had been successful.

by 1pm I noticed our number had disappeared off the board. I have my husband the elbow and asked him to go check with reception, dreading IT issues which many people report. He was gone for almost ten minutes while my brain jumped to the conclusion we had been declined and they were explaining why. But he appeared, clutching his approval letter and explaining that our caseworker had approved the case, but then went to lunch and FORGOT TO PASS OUR FILE ON. this had apparently happened an hour ago! Which meant that our visa was approved by the caseworker in an hour! I would have been furious about being made to wait an additional hour needlessly but was just SO happy!

This is the list of what we submitted\l

Confirmation of booking
Confirmation of IHS payment
Checklist document ( was emailed to us in our appointment reminder a few days before)
Application form (we printed one from online, as did not like the online application)
Sponsor letter of support
Passports
Current biometric
Passport photos with names written on the back

Finance

Natwest absolutely gave me the run around and never ended up posting me my statements and told me they also couldn't verify them. Luckily I went to a large branch and cried and they instead printed me out a 6 month transaction list and stamped to verify them. Lesson learned: Always go and ask in person.
6 payslips - printed online so letter from finance manager in company confirming payslips were authentic. Also asked her to confirm the amounts and payslip numbers in the letter.
Letter from HR confirming my name, job title, date work commenced, contract type, salary, address.
Copy of my original job contract

Proof of marriage

Wedding certificate
1 x photo scan of us on wedding day

Accomodation

1 x tenancy renewal from November adding my husband as the permiited occupier
1 x property inspection report from May 2016 which I got when I first moved in

Extras

Joint bank account statement
Boarding passes/ flight confirmations from holidays weve taken since weve been together
Some social media screen shots of various check ins together
Email from husbands dad confirming flights booked for trip

And that was it! When I write it down, it really doesnt feel like alot....! I kept a folder of 'maybe' stuff on me that I didnt submit just in case they wanted it eg original tenancy agreement, p60 etc.

Hopefully this helps. We were a pretty straightforward case compared to others but just know that MOST people find it confusing and stressful and to just give yourself PLENTY of time to get organised!

Thanks for sharing. Just a question, I know that you received your decision on the day. However, how long does it take for the BRP to arrive?

I'm trying to arrange a honeymoon date, and I was wondering if two weeks is sufficient to allow for the whole process to be completed. Really hard to find information on this online.

Thank you so much!

BRP cards, as stated on the letter a person gets at the premium centre if visa is approved, takes between 2 and 10 days, sometimes it takes longer. They are delivered by DX Couriers.

I am new to this site but your post was one of the most helpful! The UK Gov web site and the on line forms are really confusing for someone trying to do the right thing.

I need to renew my Biometric Residence Permit soon and have started to complete the on line application. It is not easy and mine is a straight forward case of being married to a British subject! From the posts on this site I see that I can apply 28 days before I have spent 2.5 years in the UK. I wonder if any one can give the for and against of applying by post, on line or through the premium centre? Secondly, do my papers have to be submitted in original plus photo copies format too?
