I recently started my job on March 1st (date on the sponsorship certificate) and got my visa on 19th March (I applied to switch from tier 4 on 20th Jan). Before joining I had clearly asked the HR department to perform a right to work check and they never got back to me. Now, they are saying that I won't be paid from 1st to 19th as they had not checked my right to work. Is this legal? They said they consulted their legal department.
I don't know what to do. Also, I told them that since they are a fully approved (‘A-rated’) sponsor they should at least give me £945 to cover my costs for a month if I need it.
Please advise me what I can do. I just feel so helpless as I moved to a new city for this job and was hoping to put a deposit on a new flat with my salary.
