Starting a UK worker visa in NI - Can we land in Dublin?

Post by harshmellow44 » Mon Apr 02, 2018 2:17 am

I am an American moving to Northern Ireland on a Tier 2 visa. On our official move date, do I need to land in Northern Ireland (UK) or can I land in Dublin and drive up? I'm finding it's MUCH cheaper to fly into Dublin.

I have two concerns:

1. Getting through Irish immigration at the airport in general.

2. For documentation purposes for renewing, ILR etc. If we aren't stamped by UK immigration at the airport, how would we prove our official start day later on? I'm assuming no border = no UK stamp and no record of us getting into the country? Is there an immigration office I'd check into once we arrive in NI? Is this allowed or do we need to land at a UK airport?

My understanding is that you need to land and be stamped in at UK immigration as your visa in your passport will be stamped and this activates your visa adn the BRP card collection process.

To keep things simple, land at a UK airport.
