British Claiming Benefits and Spousal Visa

Post by saffabrit » Tue Apr 03, 2018 1:26 pm

Hi,new on here so not sure if this subject has been bought up previously or if my situation is unique..I am a British Citizen living in the UK moved from my mother country South Africa 10 years ago.Unfortunately due to poor health I have need to start claiming PIP and ESA benefits due to my disability. My partner lives in South Africa and I would really like for her to move to the UK and become my carer although she has no british citizenship.she is south African.I am concerned that all my disability benefits would be taken away if she moved to the UK to be with me.I would also need to sponsor her as my partner after we have a civil partnership before she comes over. What is the best course of action for myself.I cannot afford to lose my benefits but also struggling to live without her and my condition is deteriorating without her here with me.Comments would be greatly appreciated please.

If she works you are likely to get a reduction in your benefits. Not sure about if she is simply living with you.

To sponsor her, you need to meet the adequate maintenance and accommodation requirement. The visa fees are quite high and going up on Friday, 6th. She will also have to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge of £600.

Thanks for your reply.Could I sponsor her if my only means of income is benefits?
Would she be able to be my paid carer?

Please click on the link I have provided as it details how much you need in benefits to sponsor your partner.
