ILR Commencement Query

Post by mhd21uk » Tue Apr 17, 2018 8:52 pm

Hello All,

I currently hold a residence permit as a REFUGEE in the United Kingdom, It was issued on the 7th of May 2014, and it is valid until 28th of April 2019, so from the moment of writing this I am 1 year and 11 days from completing my five years of residence.

My question is:

***If I do apply within 28 days as they request, and let's say i get my ILR in about 5 months which seems to be an average date for one to receive their ILR permit, would the ILR commencement date be the date i received my ILR? (which means I need to wait one more year to apply for the citizenship)

OR would the commencement date be the date I applied/date they started processing? which means the waiting period was counted as me having the ILR? (so I would apply for the passport after 7 months or so)

If the commencement date is the date I receive my ILR permit then wouldn't that mean that I just literally wasted about 5 months of residence time for no purpose other than waiting for processing?

I don't mind waiting, its just the commencement date that is bugging me

ILR start date is the date of approval and BRP card issue date.
