English Language requirement

Post by nemo999 » Mon May 21, 2018 12:32 pm

Hello,

I am posting this question on behalf of my finance who has bachelors degree taught in English from India.

We are already engaged, She will be applying for family visa (https://www.gov.uk/uk-family-visa) and then we would get married in the UK.

We are confused with English Language requirement. As far as the english language requirement is concerned, our understanding is that

a) she would either have to take IELTS for UKVI
or b) Get a certificate from UK NARIC that her degree was taught in english and comparable to UK bachelors degree.

IS this correct understanding ?

If we take the UK NARIC route, they have two different services. (Blue Route and Red route)
https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/Default.aspx

I am assuming for Visa , we will have to take the Red route , is this correct ?

Costs:

The cost of getting UK NARIC certificate (GBP 125+vat) and the cost of IELTS (UKVI) are nearly the same!

She already holds valid score of IELTS (Academic) but we are not sure if the UKVI will accept that score? Can someone please help?

Looking at the link below,
https://takeielts.britishcouncil.org/ielts-ukvi/score

it also appears that

"After two-and-a half-years in the UK, non-EEA national partners and parents on the family route will need to pass a Speaking and Listening test at A2 level in order to qualify for further leave to remain on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement."

If she goes for the IELTS for UKVI route, she will have to give one more exam in the future. Which is not ideal.

We are confused which way to prove the english ability. Please help!

NARIC ELA Red Route. Will save taking further English tests in the future for visa extension and ILR.
