Applying for right of abode for child born overseas after withdrawing passport application.

Post by siddiquihafsa » Sun Jun 03, 2018 2:22 am

I applied last mont for a first British passport for my 3 year old daughter born in Pakistan. I am the British mother to my daughter. I have been separated from my husband. After my application passport office Liverpool kept emailing me to provide more documents such as more antenatal documents and pictures of me when i was pregnant. As i was not able to provide more documents i decided to withdraw the application. Now i have decided to apply for right of abode ( as that might be easier) will there be any objections why i withdrew the passport application?

Why do you think it will be easier? The requirements for both a British passport and a CoE-RoA are the same.

I really don't know. But people who were refused a British passport from over seas were granted certificate for right of adobe. As my case is quiet complicated as i have been separated from my husband and i am providing custody papers from court to take the child out of country

Hi,

I was in the same situation as you a few months ago but I still decided to wait.

I have been asked to provide wifes picture, grandma’s letter & picture with my son, grandma’s ID, proof of adress and so on...

They also wanted more antenatal record but we couldn’t provide as we have sent all of it with the application. The nice lady on the phone advised us to put into writting.

After a few weeks we received an email about an interview, it was very straight forward and the interviewer was very nice.

1 week after interview we received our documents thay is addressed in the UK and my son’ passport abd documents that is address in the phillippines is sent back to the philippines with no extra cost.

Here is the time line of my son’s passport application:
Feb 2: Application Submitted
April 05: Wanted more documents and documents were on a list.
May 03: Received email for an interview.
May 24: Earliest Interview available (london)
May 31: Received A DHL tracking number from Passport Office to philippines
June 4: Packaged arrived & received in the Philippines containing my sons british passport.

Total waiting time was 4 months including bank holiday.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
You are extremely lucky. Citizens applying from Pakistan are kept waiting for mostly over an year. Were the documents you sent from phillipines( child's birth certificate) etc verified through phone call?
