Certified Translation of Birth Certificate for Tier 4 Student Visa

Post by Umaimah » Mon Aug 13, 2018 3:34 pm

Hi,

I got my Urdu birth certificate translated to English from a translation company in Lahore for my visa application. I've also gotten it notarized from the public notary. However, now I'm confused as to whether this company's translation would suffice, because it doesn't specifically say anywhere that this company is recognized by the UK Home Office and neither did the translator mention his qualifications.

Should I get it further attested by the Foreign Office? Or should I look for some other translator? What is the best option right now and are there any translators specifically approved/blacklisted by the Home Office?

Help!!

Where are you reading that you need these details?

The Tier 4 Policy Guidance confirms in paragraph 16 re: translations:

If you are outside the UK, where a document is not in English or Welsh, the original must be accompanied by a full translation that can be independently verified by the Home Office. The original translation must contain confirmation from the translator/translation company that it is an accurate translation of the original document, the date of the translation, the translator/an authorised official of the translation company’s full name and signature, and the translator/translation company’s contact details.

Thanks, I did read this. What exactly do they mean by "independently verified by the Home Office"? Are they referring to the document or the translation company?

It means that the translation must include all the information it goes on to list.
