When you have identified your MP you have 3 main options for contacting him/her.
1 Email
2 Letter
3 Surgery
The first two are similar and likely, depending on the MP’s office set up, to be dealt with not always by the MP directly but their staff. In any case when you write you have to get your points over succinctly, be clear as to what help you want and try to keep to one A4 page, anything overlong may not get read!
The third option is to book an appointment at the MP’s surgery. Seeing a person face to face can help to get your MP personally involved. If seeing the MP you will generally have a limited time slot. Again make sure you are clear and concise as to what are the issues and what help you are seeking. Taking a list of bullet points to make sure you get your points over is a good policy. Also take a sheet of paper with all your details and a synopsis of the problem and the help you are seeking to hand to the MP, this will save them writing things down and give you more time to explain your case.
The above is just my thoughts on the subject. What you do and how you do it is obviously dependent on your situation and how important it is to you to get the HO to make a decision.
