Tier 2 dependent visa asked for police clearence

Hi
I have applied for tier2 dependant visa on 3 Oct 2018 but I received email
from home office on 5 Oct to submit police clearence certificate
I again called them on 8 Oct to return my passport to get police clearence
done my question is do they will return my passport to get police
clearence done and how much time it will take
