Citizenship ceremony abroad.

Post by trilobite1981 » Tue Nov 06, 2018 3:01 pm

Hi everyone

I am expecting my Naturalization decision any time soon now.
I have already made some plans to visit Sri Lanka starting from end December and the time away from the UK will be about 5 months due to personal reasons.
My questions are;

1. If I manage to get my approval in mid-November would I be able to book a private ceremony at my local council latest around end November? I understand that this is depending on the local council availability but appreciate if someone can shed a light following their experience in private ceremony arrangements.

2. Even if I succeeded with arranging the private ceremony at my local council I am in doubt whether I will receive my new British passport in time. I applied for the passport during my JCAP appointment. Could someone let me know the average timescale to receive new passport?

3. After weighing all these facts I am starting to feel it would be easier for me to do my citizenship ceremony at British High Commission – Sri Lanka if possible. I am wondering whether that is an option for myself in this situation.

4. If it is possible how easy it is to arrange my ceremony and would the HMPO deliver my passport to Sri Lankan address?

Many thanks guys!

Are you married to a British citizen who is also moving abroad??

It is not complicated to arrange your ceremony, group or private, so not sure why you think it is.

HMPO will likely NOT deliver your passport overseas.

You should wait before you travel.

Obviously you might NOT get a decision soon on your application.
