FLR (M) extension - expiry during processing time?

Hi, my spouse visa is due to expiry on 30th October and I am preparing to submit my application to extend.

Given the tight timelines, can anyone tell me what happens if my current visa expires whilst I am waiting for a decision to be made on the extension application? I am currently working.

Would it be a safer bet to pay for the super priority service? My circumstances aren't complicated.

If you make an application before your current visa expires your existing permission will automatically continue until a decision is made on your application - this is under section 3c of the 1971 Immigration Act,
