Can a child over 18 apply for UK Citizenship along with mother?

I would be grateful for some advice, please.

My wife received ILR this month, and is applying for UK citizenship. There is an option at the end of the application to add another applicant, and one of the options is “Child over 18”.

My wife’s son came with her as dependent, applied for ILR along with my wife, and and received his ILR this month along with my wife. He has been in the UK for five years, but he is now over 18. Can he apply now, or does he need to wait for 12 months?

As he is an adult, he has to wait 12 months on ILR before he can apply for citizenship.
