Applying for Schengen next week from US but my US visa is expiring in August. Will they accept my application?

Has anyone tried applying for Schengen from US when their US visa was going to expire within 3 months of departure from Schengen area?

Just saw this:

Code: Select all

The US residence permit or visa should be valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen Area.

I am on H1B visa in US which is expiring in August. I am planning to go to Italy in July 1st week and will be returning back to US mid July itself. My Schengen visa appointment in Boston is next week.

Give above, does it mean Italy consulate won't accept my application?

Same is stated on the embassy website: https://consboston.esteri.it/consolato_ ... ments.html
For non US citizens: Alien Registration Card or a valid US INS visa and letter from US government letters i.e. Advanced Parole, IAP66, I20 and copies, I797 (any visa or permit with the exception of B1-B2) with a validity of at least three months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen Area; Please bring a photocopy along with the original.
It doesn't hurt to try, but be prepared for a refusal.

It could very much hurt to try. Having a visa refusal in the VIS system will come up - and not in a positive way - every time OP applies for a Schengen visa in the future.

My fault, didn't express myself clearly.
What I envisaged is highlighting the fact of visa validity for less than 3 months to the embassy workers and seeing if they have anything to say about it; despite mentioned validity, there were a few success stories in Schengen area countries with students, for example, who had just a few months left on their visa just before summer, received a positive response. OP could raise this and see if they have any objections on the spot.
