Travelling on school trip Austria- Does a pupil need visa

Post by Vin_1317 » Thu Jan 09, 2025 5:52 pm

Hi Experts,

My son studies in Year 9 of school in UK. He is 13 years old.
We both have UK Indefinite Leave to Remain ( ILR) in UK. And have Indian passports.
My Son will be travelling to Austria in February on school trip, I have read some online documentation which says Pupil with UK valid visa and travelling with school does not need a separate visa for Pupil to travel to Europe.
Has anyone experienced such a situation, Can you please guide on the visa requirements for a Pupil with UK resident permit for travelling to Austria?

The France Visa Website clearly says,
Non-EU schoolchildren
Non-EU schoolchildren living in the UK can travel to France without a visa if they are pupils at a general education school.

However i couldn't find such information for the Austria?

Appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Vin.

Indian citizens need a visa for entry to Austria.
I haven't heard about the visa free entry to France.
Why isn't the school sorting this out?

That might be a reference to the days when UK was in EU - there are some EU wide regulations for nonEU school students in EU to be sent on school trip.
As UK left EU, I do not think it applies to Austria nowadays.

You need to apply for a Schengen visa for your child.
