Student Visa to Skilled Worker Visa (PhD Student)

Post by saifalramahi » Tue Feb 04, 2025 11:12 am

Hi,

I have been in the UK for 4 years on multiple visas (student, graduate, skilled worker, and now student again). I have started a full-time PhD course last year (Feb, 2024) and just got a full time job offer with a sponsorship. I know that the gov website says that as a phd student, you need to complete 24 months of the course before switching to a skilled worker visa. However, I want to switch my PhD to part time and complete it with the same university. Does this mean I would need to cancel my student visa first and then apply for the skilled worker visa?

Haven't seen any cases like this elsewhere on the internet so would appreciate your advice! Thank you.

You can get a defined COS and apply from your home country. As you are less then 24 month into your PhD you can't switch to skilled worker.
