Issues related to minors obtaining citizenship

Post by iceman809 » Sat Feb 21, 2026 4:49 pm

My daughter is 14 years old. She was born in Canada and is a Canadian citizen. I was granted UK indefinite leave to remain in 2021 and became a British citizen one year later. My daughter relocated from Canada to the United Kingdom in 2024 and has since been living and attending school here. I applied for indefinite leave to remain on her behalf in November 2024, and it was granted in the same month. I then submitted an application for her registration as a British citizen on January 2026.

Could you please advise whether there is any specific residence requirement for her registration as a British citizen, and whether, based on this timeline, her application is likely to be successful?

She needs a minimum of 2 years residence as an older child.

You were advised of this requirement in January last year when you asked.
