Looking for some advice from anyone who has gone through this process recently.
My wife currently holds an Indian Passport and has UK ILR.
We want to add surname on her official documents (currently on Indian passport just given name no surname which makes it difficult in HMRC systems where surname is needed).
Eventually, she plans to apply for British Citizenship, a UK Passport, and an OCI card.
Because of the UK's "One Name for All Purposes" policy, I understand we can't just apply for a British passport directly in the new name. Please can you confirm my understanding is correct?
For those who did this:
Did you update the Indian Passport first via VFS UK?
What was the timeline like?
Did you need newspaper advertisements for just a surname change after marriage, or was the UK Marriage Certificate + Annexure enough?
Did you face any issues when later applying for Naturalisation and the OCI card?
Any tips or recent experiences would be massively appreciated!
