Naturalisation Max days out > 90

Guys, I got question on this point

"have not spend more than 90 days outside the United Kingdom in the last 12 months of the five-year period;"

Is this hard and fast rule. If I am out of UK for more than 3 month(out of my last 12 months) for business reason would that be acceptable or are they very strict about it.
