Qns: What supporting docs required in the following scenario. If anyone has claimed points for self employment, could you please explain what you did. Apologies for the detailed info.
I want to claim points for income earned as self employed in UK. I have got myself registered as self-employed with HMRC but have not received any reference/identification number. I have got exemption certificate for NI contribution as I reckon my income from self employment will not cross £4k.
I basically provide tution and do odd computer repair jobs. The problem arises because most of it is on cash basis. The total income from this is roughly £2.5k for the 12 month period I am applying Tier 1. (I am also salaried but my income falls short by £1k for claiming adequate points)
The case workers manual requires following docs as evidence. List at the end.
1. I can file tax return as 5th April is end of tax year.
2. Not sure what the second point means. Is it just summary of jobs done or formal contract documents for each job?
3. Invoices from employer!!!! I basically work for individuals. How an Invoice can be obtained from them?
4. Bank Statement. Not all amount is received as cheque. Cash received not deposited in bank as not large sum when received.
Please advise how I should prepare the documents as I dont want to lose out only on shortfall of £1k
Required evidence for independent contractors
All of the following:
• Income tax return covering the full period claimed for;
• Contracts over the full period claimed showing the full amount of earnings claimed;
• Invoices from the employer covering the amount claimed; and
• Bank statements showing incoming payments covering the amount claimed.
If the supporting evidence does not contain two forms of corroborating evidence which clearly demonstrate the applicant’s gross earnings for the period claimed, the applicant should provide one of the following documents listed below;
• A covering letter from their accountant, on business letterhead, which confirms their gross and net earnings for the claimed earnings period;
