One year validity for an initial???

I just received my Tier 1 (G) residence permit - switching from PSW.
However, it only has a validity of one year, i.e.:
Date of Issue: XX-May-2011
Valid Until: XX-May-2012

It should be two years, right? Has anyone heard of only one year being offered?

I called the help desk, they said they don't know anything, but thought it should be two years. They advised me to send a letter to Sheffield and wait for the response. Unfortunately I need to travel soon - I'm trying to avoid such a slow process.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, you cannot escape this! Do as advised, and better still, try to contact the caseworker directly.

What is your travel duration out of UK?
Susdmehta, isn't it possible if he requests for correction after the visit (assuming it is like 3months long AT MOST)?

Or simply sending an email/letter to UKBA highlighting the mistaking; and saying that due to travel reason, he can submit after 3-4 months?

My last caseworker had the email as Firstname.Lastname@UKBA.gsi.gov.uk
