What to do.

Post by rao166 » Fri Aug 04, 2006 11:17 am

hello everyone,

I got my hsmp approval last year and went to london in dec 2005. Initially i was very much motivated and enthusiastic but some intial days at my friend's place gave me a clear picture about the life in UK. They were living like 7 ppl in a small house and i was the 8th using same Spam and washroom.

Then i made a survey of my expected earnings and and expenditures.I am an IT professional and at that time held 3 yrs of experience. with this i could find a job ranging 27 to 33 K. Making it 30 K, i could have gotten 1800 pounds after all tax and ni deductions. and then expenditures i estimated as 600 for a single flat with independent Spam and washroom(this i think my basic requirements of living nothing as luxury). 150 for travelling and 200 for food. To cut the story short i would have been left with 800 pounds as savings. In my home country my savings were like 500 pounds. So that extra 300 pounds could not take me any where. Secondly i was home-sick too. Then i found a salary checker website which showed that even if i get 100 k as salary , 60 k would be left as net after deductions. which means 5 k per month and this salary i would get after some 15 yrs of exp if i were so lucky. But again then as your income increases with time so are your liabilities with family and children. Hence net saving would be in the same range.

After all this analysis, i left Uk after 3 months of my arrival and landed back to my home country. Here i had some job+ buisness plans. Unfortunately business was not successful and there was some financial loss also.

Now there are only 2 months in expiration of my visa and i am confused what to do. If anyone can help me out , i would be grateful.

UK is expensive. but then you have a choice either to stay and rough it or leave the terain.

It was really sad to hear this side of your story...I can relate to you as I also came with the same dreams in and conincidently I also came in Dec'05. I came alsong with my spouse and no doubt we also made an extensive serach for jobs as lot of people told me that is quiet arnd Dec..both of us got the job (finance) in Jan and since then we have been really good with savings...I don't know if you are a family man but ur estimate of expenses is too high...if u r alone u can survive very well in london with arnd 700-800 GBP including evrything (housing, food, travelling) and can save good 1000 GBP every month...believe me life is not tough here if u have a job and it's just the matter of finding the first one...u shud not loose heart...come back and search for a job asap and i m not too sure if u can get an extension for 4 years but can get it for 1 year and then u will have time to settle....it's difficult to comment on ur situation but i have told u about an experience which can help u decide..
