inquire of the progress of your application

I am sorry to be a pain, In the acknowledgement letter that I received, it does say that 'we will appreciate if you do not inquire of the progress of your application' Can someone tell me what happen if I call them about the progress of the application.

They'll simply refuse to tell you the status of ur application. Many ppl recommend not the give them a cell as it doesn't make them work faster for making decision on ur app.
