Do I have to renew my passport before application

Post by jan77 » Thu Mar 01, 2012 2:34 pm

Hi everyone, I noticed my passport is expiring around the time I am applyimg for the extension of stay. Does it matter? Since we are using biometric cards now or I need to renew before applying?

2) what happens if you travel with an expired passpport?

Do u have an idea?

Does it matter to have a valid passport for tier 1 general extension application? If yes how many months validity is reasonable? I.e if my passport has 12months validity is it ok to apply with it for a 3year extension of stay?

it is recommended that you have a valid passport at the time of application even the new leave will be granted in BRP. passport don't need it to be valid for 6 months for the extension of leave to remain within UK.
you can't travel with an expired passport however you can retain a valid visa in an expired passport - as long as you carry both expired and new passports together.

dude, are you suggesting to apply for extension with less than 6 months validity on passport ? given the current time lines for T1 extension, if passport expires while application is in process, it will be returned. better be safe than sorry.

passports can be renewed up to 1 year before expiry & it doesnt take more than a couple of weeks for new passport to arrive, so better do it sooner rather than later

I am not suggesting to apply with a passport that is valid for less than 6 months. It's upto the applicant to take a decision. Also don't assume it would be a postal application - it could be an in person application at PEO.

Am only saying that it's not required to have passport valid > 6 months - it only need to be valid.
