changes to Tier 1 General Extension

Post by RahulBohra » Fri Mar 16, 2012 12:31 am

Group,

Are there any proposed changes to Tier 1 General extension that come into effect from April 6th 2012 ? I heard that UKBA wouldn't accept requests for second extension if you have already got the initial entry clearance and the first extension (in theory total 5 years).

I ask this because I need to go for a second extension because I fall short of the 5-year requirement for ILR.

Thanks for your help.

I heard this from a friend but was not able to find anything about this on the UKBA website. The only thing I was found was in the document titled

"STATEMENT OF INTENT: CHANGES TO TIER 1, TIER 2 AND TIER 5 OF THE POINTS BASED SYSTEM; OVERSEAS DOMESTIC WORKERS; AND VISITORS
February 2012"

On page 30, it has this -

Proposal
Consider capping the maximum period of Tier 1 temporary leave at 5 years and restricting the number of exceptional talent migrants granted settlement.

Response
We will not make this change.

So looks like they dropped the idea but I want to double check because this is extremely important to me - I cant get an ILR if I don't go in for a 2nd extension.

Any idea whom to contact to confirm this? Anyone specific in UKBA, any email id?

Thanks.

Group,

I just exchanged emails with UKBA and they have confirmed that this proposal was NOT adopted. Great.

why do you need the emails, the information was already clear from the statement of intent, a link for which you have quoted.
