visa extension....please

is it possible to extend your student visa..while only doing

your dissertation?

That is, i will not be attending classes but i will be meeting with my

supervisor?. i intend to extend my disssertation submission time for another

few months but don't have a visa to last me that long.. Not sure if home

office will allow me, as this is the second extension of my dissertation

handling time.... please help!!!!!
