Visa for a Director of a UK company who is an Indian

Does anyone know if its possible to make a visa for a Director of a UK based company if the person is an Indian national?
Or will the company have to make a Work permit for this person?

Thanks for any insight on this..

Can you say more? What is this Director intending to do in the UK? For example, attend a Board Meeting and promptly fly back, or what?

John-Well he will not be based in UK but he will need to come and go for a week or so each month.
He is currently living in East Europe since about 15 years.
