Visa for my new born baby

Post by raikal » Thu Mar 18, 2004 11:03 pm

Hi,

Currently I am on work permit which is vaild until Jan 2005. Our baby is born in UK last month and we have taken Indian passport for her.

Do I need to apply to Homeoffice to get the Dependent Visa stamped on baby's passport ? If so I think I have to pay for this 155 ( post ) 250 (In person ).

This is really outrageous. 250 pounds for such a small straight forward thing.

My question is, If we go to Switzerland for a day trip, and come back to UK , can we request the immigration officer to stamp the dependant Visa on my baby's passport ?
( This is becoz, to go to switzerland, we do not need any visa as we are residents in UK)

Please advise.

Thanks

Yes unless your baby will never travel out of the U.K.

I am sure its cheaper than the swiss trip if its just to avoid paying this FLR fee :) . You need from FLR (O) - if you were getting a WP extension you would have added your baby to the currently free FLR(WPH) form but this does not apply in this case.

No. Visa Nationals which includes nationals of India cannot travel to the UK without a visa. An Immigration Officer cannot in any case admit you for more than 6 months even for non visa nationals as the rules have been amended to require all non EEA nationals (and their dependents) to apply for a visa if coming to the UK for more than 6 months.

This concession only applies to those holding a UK visa granted with more than 6 months validity unless such is a vignette format multiple entry visitors visa. Your baby does not meet this criteria until he/she has the dependent FLR stamp on his/her passport. Your option are to get FLR, go to swiss without the baby or cancel the trip for now.
