Visit Dublin on ILR/dependent visa?

Post by sky_rise » Fri Aug 23, 2019 9:33 pm

He all, a quick question which gives us a lot of pain!

We want to visit a family member who is a student in Dublin. I hold ILR and my partner is dependent on me. I am due to get citizenship (hopefully) later this year. Partner will continue on dependent UK visa on me. We are Russian nationals.

Question:
- Can we visit Dublin from London only having ILR+dependent visa, on our Russian passports.
- Or, can we visit Dublin once I get UK passport (so i can surely visit Dublin for short stay), and my partner accompany me as partner of British citizen on UK visa?

Thank you!

IRL is a nationally issued immigration status, not an EU one. You and your spouse will need a visa to visit Ireland, your BPRs don't confer an automatic right to visa free travel and because neither of you are British citizens you aren't able to exercise free movement under the Common Travel Area.

Visa waiver program is only for certain cases like UK visa "C".
If you Wife don't have this UK "C" visa - She need to get valid Ireland Visa.
UK ILR or even EU Residence card (except 4EU FAM) - is not counted to enter Ireland.

Hi all, many thanks for your responses.

I understand with regards to separate visa.

However in case if one of us becomes UK citizen and partner is dependent, can partner travel with the UK citizen for a 2 day visit? I heard this works in case of UK citizen and their non-EU/UK partner into EU countries for a day or two.

Please confirm or ?

thanks!

No.

You are probably confusing it with EU Free Movement directive. An EU (but not UK) citizen living in the UK can bring their non-EU partner to another EU country, subject to all registrations being complete.
