Visitor Visa and Schengen Visa

Hi,

My wife and I are both British.Our mother in law from Russia is visiting us at the moment on a type c UK visitors visa.

I understand that as we are British we get a 'free' schengen visa for our mother in law BUT also understand that as she has a Type C British visa she cannot apply in the UK.

Is that correct? She needs to apply back in Russia for a schengen visa.

Any help appreciated.

The visa is free if she is a depedent of you. Many Schengen embassies in the UK require legal residence otherwise they won't issue visas.

Are there any embassies that will issue visas for Type C Visitors visas?

I think the Dutch say so on their webpage but as far as I remember they also mention that it would take a long time to get the visa.

In any case be reminded that you will have to apply to the country where you stay longest or if that cannot be determined to the country of first entry. Some embassis are told to be quite unhappy if their country isn't visited and may refuse the issue of another visa.

I believe inlaws can travel visa-free with their family within EU (except UK and Ireland), they only have to show prove of their family ties and if come to worst..the visa can be made at the point of entry (border). Some EU countries have different rules so I believe it depends on the EU country they plan to visit (Cyprus for example have no problem with that).
