Waiting for ESOL certificate.......!

Post by hannahj » Sun Jun 13, 2010 5:43 pm

My husband has passed him ESOL exams with citizenship at college a couple of weeks ago, as advised by his tutor. However they are waiting for his certificate to arrive and we need to make the ILR application now. Will they accept a letter explaining this from his college?..........or do we need to do a flr application for what could be just a couple of weeks???

ESOL certificates can be delayed for several weeks. With the tightening off rules regarding ESOL qualifications you may find that you have to apply for FLR.
Will you husband's certificate show that he has progressed from one level to the next?

Im not sure what it will actually say but he has just passed his esol entry level 1 with citizenship. It truely seems so wrong that we would have to apply for the flr just because of waiting on the certificate!! that could actually turn up the following day!

So you don't actually need to apply "now". You could wait nearly two weeks. But do ensure that an application is in the post before that expiry date.

No thats right and fingers crossed it will arrive in time but its not looking likely. So in the event its not arrived by 25th , will we need to submit a flr(m)?? Please advise... Thanks

I am not sure. The safe answer says yes, apply for FLR(M). However that is expensive.

The maybe unsafe answer is to apply for ILR and to write a covering letter, if you can't get a suitable letter from the college, saying that the course has been completed and the certificate will be supplied as soon as possible. Such an application would need to be postal, and will take 2-3 months to be dealt with, and hopefully before the application is processed the certificate will have been forwarded to them.

Thanks John. I have been onto the college today and they are going to do what they can to chase the certificate. They already have a letter waiting for him - which gets supplied with the certificate as he has done the citizenship add on. Have got all fingers crossed that it will arrive within the next week!!
